1960's

The company was first incorporated under the name Norris Brothers R & D Ltd.  Work undertaken included both the design and the construction of Donald Cambell's world famous boat and work on the car, both named "Bluebird".

The highly qualified engineering staff that developed such projects, with their range of expertise, built the foundations of today's company.

1969

The business was re-named to Norcon (Norris) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidary of Norris Brothers Limited.

The first product the company developed for use in hazardous areas was the Intrinsically Safe Hydraulic Control Valve.  These were powered by the Norcon Intrinsically Safe Power Supply Unit (PSU).

1974

An increase in demand for the PSU to be sited in the Hazardous Area resulted in the development of the first Norcon Flameproof Enclosure.

With an increased activity in the exploration of the North Sea for Oil and Gas came a demand for Certified Component Approved Enclosures.

1970-80's

An extensive range of Certified Component Approved Enclosures were designed and manufactured for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas; with either IIA or IIB gas groups.

A series of Apparatus Certificates were obtained to complement the enclosures, thereby allowing the use of a wide variety of electrical devices in the Hazardous Area.

Today

Continued asscociation with BASEEFA (EECS), work with SIRA and ISSEP has seen further development of both apparatus and component approved certificates, to the point that we currently hold approximately 200 certificates to both National and International Cenelec Standards.

The flameproof enclosure range has been extended to allow operation in both IIA, IIB and IIC gas groups.

Enclosures are manufactureed from Aluminium, Cast Iron, Stainless Steel and Fabricated Steel.  The units are normally provided with Epoxy Paint finish, originally developed for use in North Sea environments.

A Diverse Range

Our range of certification allows us to provide solutions to most of our customers specific needs.

Liason with the certifying authorities allows continued expasion and development of the approved apparatus.

Additionally work with respect to the ATEX Directive is ongoing, thereby ensuring Norcon's continued presence in the market place in this new millenium.
